For more than 12 years, the Porsche Club of America-San Diego Region (PCA-SDR) has been dedicated to raising funds and collecting toys for Rady Children’s.
In 2010, PCA-SDR Charity Chair, Kathy Alnwick, coordinated a toy drive in November and December, asking members to donate a toy to any club event during those months, and those generous club members donated hundreds of toys!
Kathy also organized a breakfast at local restaurant in Old Town before delivering the toys. The day was rainy, but that didn’t deter the 35 club members who attended with their families. As breakfast was winding down, Santa Claus made a surprise appearance, giving each child an opportunity to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas.
After breakfast, and in spite of the light drizzle, Santa climbed into the rumble seat of a 1931 Model-T Ford, owned and driven by past club member Tom Eggert, and led a procession of 20 Porsches to the Hospital for the toy delivery.
In addition to the toy drive, the PCA-SDR holds their annual installation dinner every January. During the festivities, they hold a live and silent auction, donating 50% of the proceeds to Rady Children’s.
