It was a lazy summer afternoon splashing around the pool when suddenly, a dragonfly alighted on her son’s raft. Sarita Zouvas will never forget how hundreds of dragonflies came to call that day – gently, graciously sharing their delicate beauty.
Immediately she thought of Isabella, her firstborn lost to cancer at just 4 years old in 2001. Sarita saw the dragonfly as a sign of Isabella’s spirit living on – through the family’s work to help kids with cancer.
Through Isabella’s Gift, Sarita and her husband Matthew have raised more than $110,000 by hosting an annual “Art of Giving” event to help provide chemotherapy for underinsured children treated at the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. They also made a generous gift to the new Acute Care Pavilion; a room was named in Isabella’s honor. Isabella’s Gift has also supported various Rady Children’s events, including Celebration of Champions and The Shamu and You Family Walk. In addition to fundraising, Isabella’s Gift collects hundreds of pairs of pajamas, robes and slippers each year to help kids receiving treatment feel more comfortable while in the Hospital.
Masquerade Valentine’s Day Party In the tradition of keeping alive the loving spirit of their children who have passed, Isabella’s Gift and the Friends of Scott Foundation have teamed up to host a Masquerade Valentine’s Day Party. The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Old Venice in Point Loma. Cocktail Attire: Masks are a must! Donations will be accepted at the door. All funds raised will benefit The Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s. For more information, please email Carmen@friendsofscott.org or Sarita@isabellasgift.org.
