Running for Rady’s began when classmate and friend Khuong Lu was diagnosed with leukemia, in November of 2008. His diagnosis hit fellow classmate DawnMarie Meyers hard, so she decided to do something about it. Initially DawnMarie set out to participate in the Rock-n-Roll marathon to raise funds for leukemia, but discovered she was too young. She decided to hold her own Walk-a-thon – dubbed Running for Rady’s. The inaugural event took place in May 2009, rounding up 30 participants and raising $2200. In 2010, the Walk became an annual event, nearly doubling the number of participants and raising a cool $2700.
Unfortunately, Khuong lost his battle with leukemia in March of 2010 but Running for Rady’s will continue to honor their dear friend Khuong, with it’s 3rd annual event scheduled for the spring of 2011.
