Junior Miracle Makers are individuals under the age of 18 who fundraise for Rady Children’s, raising at least $500 annually. From selling lemonade on a street corner and making and selling jewelry or crafts to asking their friends to write checks to Rady Children’s in lieu of birthday presents – and everything in between. Rady Children’s operates the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services (CAPS) program, a 22-bed inpatient unit for children and adolescents up to age 18 with psychiatric illness. The program is currently located next to Alvarado Medical Center and will be relocated to the campus of Rady Children’s in January 2013. MORE

Michael Akers is different from your typical 17-year-old. He seems calmer, more confident, more self-assured. He makes eye contact, laughs easily, and even pokes fun at himself from time to time. He walks like he knows where he’s going.
A gifted athlete, Michael has a purple belt in judo and plays second base for the Morse High School Tigers. He is a contact hitter and batted .300 as a freshman. MORE

DS Action
In 2008, DS Action partnered with Rady Children's Hospital to establish a Down Syndrome Center, where children with Down syndrome would have an equal opportunity of receiving recommended evaluations, referrals and intervention services. The Center is funded through DS Action and donations from the community and will celebrate its 5 year anniversary on January 15, 2013. MORE
